# Running your first vendor event (/help/organizers/coming-from/first-event)

**In short:** a vendor event has five stages. Do them in order and you'll be fine.

<Steps>
  <Step>
    **Two to three months before:**

    [create your event](/help/organizers/create-and-publish)

     and

    [set up space types](/help/organizers/venue-map/space-types)

     with prices.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    **Two months before:**

    [build your map](/help/organizers/venue-map)

     and publish the event so vendors can apply.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    **Four to six weeks before:**

    [review applications](/help/organizers/vendor-applications)

     and

    [give vendors their booths](/help/organizers/venue-map/assign-vendors)

    .
  </Step>

  <Step>
    **The week before:**

     post an announcement with load-in times, and

    [sell tickets](/help/organizers/tickets)

     if you need them.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    **On the day:**

    [check people in](/help/organizers/check-in)

    . Afterwards,

    [export your vendor list](/help/organizers/export-vendors)

     for next time.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**You're done when** your event is over and your vendors want to come back.

## Common questions

### How early should I start?

Two to three months ahead works well for most markets. Vendors plan their season early.

### How do I price booths?

Look at what similar events near you charge, and think about your costs: venue, tents, power and marketing. Start simple, with one or two space types.

### Do I need to sell tickets?

No. Many markets are free to visit. Turn on tickets only if you charge entry or need a headcount.
