I never imagined I would become an artist. My journey began during one of the most difficult chapters of my life, after the birth of my third daughter. While navigating postpartum depression, I found myself searching for something that could bring joy back into our home. One afternoon, I picked up a paintbrush and began painting alongside my daughters. What started as a small moment of healing slowly became something much bigger. As our family painted together, I realized I wasn't just creating colorful designs—I was reconnecting with the culture and traditions I grew up with in India while also celebrating the heritage of my husband's family from Pakistan. Those shared moments inspired me to transform everyday objects like kettles, coffee pots, mugs, and serving pieces into functional works of art that tell stories of craftsmanship, history, and home. Dastkaari, which means "handcrafted," was born from that experience. Every piece I create is painted by hand and carries a small part of our family's story. My hope is that when someone brings one of these pieces into their home, they're not just buying functional art—they're creating new memories around tea, coffee, family gatherings, and conversations that bring people together. For me, art has always been about connection. It helped me heal, gave my daughters a deeper appreciation for their heritage, and has introduced me to incredible people from all walks of life. That is what continues to inspire me every time I pick up a brush.
