Permits for your market in Portland, ME.

To run an outdoor market on Portland city property, the organizer applies to the Public Assembly Facilities Division for an event permit (25 to 2,000 people) or festival application (2,000+). Food booths need both a City of Portland temporary food license and a Maine state license, and vendors register with Maine Revenue Services for sales tax.

Not shown, based on your answers: parks and public space, fire safety, tents and cooking, food vendors. See everything for Portland.

For you

Event permit.

Event Permit Application (25-2000 people) or Festival Application (2000+ people)

Applications go to the Division, preferably by email. After tentative approval the organizer files insurance certificates, pays permit fees and security deposits, and applies for needed City licenses before a Permit for Use is issued with conditions. For 2,000 or more attendees the department can only recommend approval and the Portland City Council is the final permitting authority.
