CERAMICS by Kerima

Kerima is the founder and artist of CERAMICS by kerima. Drawn to the quiet space between function and expression, Kerima creates small-batch, artisan ceramics that blend heritage, faith, and everyday use. Whether it’s sipping tea from a handmade mug or pulling a glaze experiment from the kiln, she is inspired by the beauty hidden in daily rituals. Her pieces are meant not only to be seen, but to be held, used, and lived with. Her journey with clay began with a spontaneous ceramics class in college, taken simply for fun. What started as curiosity slowly became a steady practice, one that found its way into her life and under her fingernails. Since then, she has studied under inspiring teachers at NOVA and the Workhouse Arts Center, where she developed an appreciation for patience, precision, and a sense of humor when the kiln has other plans. More recently, her work has been shaped by a growing interest in glaze chemistry, especially the complexity and unpredictability of crystalline glazes. By day, Kerima works as a Senior Accountant at Clear Sky Financial, where she is drawn to structure, balance, and detail. These qualities carry into her ceramics practice, particularly at the wheel, where control and intuition must coexist. As an instructor at Potters Union, Kerima encourages others to slow down, explore clay, and embrace the messy, meaningful process of making by hand. Through her work, she hopes to create objects that offer both beauty and utility, pieces that quietly enrich the rhythms of everyday life.
