Additional insured

An additional insured is a third party, such as a venue, city or market organizer, that is added to a vendor's or host's liability policy by an endorsement. It lets that party be covered for claims tied to the insured's work at the event. Venues and organizers often require it.

Explained

About additional insured.

Also called: additional insured endorsement, named as additional insured.

Being listed on a certificate of insurance as a certificate holder is not the same as being an additional insured. The additional insured status comes from an endorsement on the policy, and the certificate should say so.

Insurers may charge a small fee or take a day or two to add one, and some policies add it automatically for certain relationships. Ask your agent early and give them the exact legal name the venue wants listed.

Vendors are most often asked to name the organizer and the venue owner. Organizers are most often asked to name the venue, the city or the property owner.

This is general information, not insurance or legal advice; an insurance agent can tell you what your own policy covers.
