Fire marshal tent permit

A fire marshal tent permit is approval from the local fire official for tents and canopies at an event. Larger tents often need a permit and inspection, and the official may check flame-resistant labels, exits, spacing, extinguishers and cooking equipment. Size thresholds and fees vary by city and county.

About fire marshal tent permit.

Also called: tent permit, fire department tent inspection, tent and canopy permit.

Organizers usually apply because the permit covers the whole event layout. Individual vendor canopies may be exempt below a size, but cooking inside or under one often triggers extra rules.

Tents commonly need a certificate or tag showing the fabric is flame resistant. Fire officials may also ask for site maps and for generators to be kept at a distance.

Ask the fire marshal's office early, because inspection slots can book up around busy weekends.
