Rain date

A rain date is a backup date set ahead of time for an outdoor event that gets canceled or postponed by bad weather. Organizers announce it with the original date so vendors and shoppers can plan. Policies should say who decides, when, and what happens to booth fees if the event cannot run.

Explained

About rain date.

Also called: weather date, backup date, alternate date, inclement weather date.

Not every event has one. Many run rain or shine, and others announce cancellations or postponements the day before.

Decide the trigger in advance, such as lightning, high wind or a set amount of rain, and say who decides and how you will tell vendors.

State whether fees carry over to the rain date, are refunded or are partly kept. Vendors may not be free on the backup day, so a refund option matters.
