Temporary use permit
A temporary use permit, or TUP, is a zoning approval that allows a site to host an activity it is not normally zoned for, such as a pop-up market in a parking lot, for a set period. Cities that require one usually handle it through a planning or zoning office.

About temporary use permit.
Also called: TUP, temporary use approval, temporary event zoning permit.
It is separate from a special event permit, which governs the event itself. A temporary use permit is about whether the land use is allowed at all, and not every city has one.
Expect to supply the property owner's permission, dates, expected attendance and parking or traffic plans. Recurring markets may need a longer approval or a different zoning route.
If a venue is already zoned for events, you may not need one. Ask the city planning office which approvals apply to your address and dates.
This is general information, not legal advice; check with your city, county or state office or an attorney for your situation.
